Among a total of more than 450 copies of this piece recorded in PSA's census reporting, only seven examples have achieved a higher tier. Two years before the release of Michael Jordan's iconic Fleer rookie card, Star Co. issued this seminal memento, the first officially licensed NBA card featuring the six-time NBA Finals champion and incomparable sporting icon. And, in comparison to its Fleer counterpart, the piece is much more scarce: it's been reported that only 3,000 copies of Jordan's Star Company Rookie Card were produced! PSA (which has only intermittently assessed this card over the years) has validated fewer than 460 copies of this piece in its census reporting, in comparison to more than 27,100 confirmed examples of the icon's Fleer rookie card. This coveted collectible displays "His Airness" utilizing his signature aggression and determination to secure a rebound over New Jersey Nets guard Kevin McKenna. With their full-bleed, colored borders and thin-cardstock construction, Star cards are normally condition-sensitive affairs. The offered example, however, deftly avoids the condition-related pitfalls of this production and projects a stellar, highly visual appearance. Around the periphery, fiery red borders culminate in barely touched, well-shaped corners. The central representation enjoys brilliant image fidelity, animating an image that accurately conveys the kinetic thrills of seeing Jordan on the court.
